Stoyan has been tattooing for twenty years. He owns Cox and works in it himself, alongside the other artists in the studio. Surrealism, realism, black & grey, trashpolka, biomechanical: long, technical pieces. Sessions usually run two to four hours; a full day is six to eight or more. Consultations are free, and he keeps flash on hand if you want something small tonight.
The studio dog. He is what the place is named after, and he turns up in review after review.
Poured for clients. Bulgarian studio hospitality, and the thing people actually write about afterwards.
Tourists walk in on their last night in Malta and find the lights still on. That is the whole point of the hours.

Rated 5 out of 5I was visiting Malta from India for three weeks and had been hoping to get a tattoo as a souvenir, but our packed itinerary meant it never happened. By our last night, I’d accepted that I was going home without one.
Then, late at night, my husband and I spontaneously took one of the traditional little harbour boats from Valletta to Sliema with absolutely no plans. Once we arrived, I did a quick Google search and saw that Cox was still open until midnight! so we decided to walk in.
I had no idea what I wanted, but the artist - Mar Blane took the time to chat with me, bounce around ideas, and help create a design that I absolutely love. The whole experience was relaxed, professional, and genuinely fun. They made both my husband and me feel completely at ease from the moment we walked in.
What started as a spontaneous late-night decision became one of my favourite memories from Malta. I couldn’t have asked for a better souvenir. If you’re looking for talented artists, a welcoming atmosphere, and a studio that’s happy to accommodate walk-ins, I highly recommend Cox. Thank you for making the experience so memorable!
Rated 5 out of 5Amazing experience! We were three friends and got three matching heart tattoos together. The artist was professional, talented, and very attentive to details. The tattoos came out even better than we imagined, and the whole experience was smooth and fun. Highly recommended!
Rated 5 out of 5I am Groot!
I cautiously asked for another appointment and got one before my departure.
I knew exactly what I wanted, so nothing stood in the way of a new tattoo.
The design was perfectly executed and finally inked under my skin.
Thank you very much!
I’ll be happy to come back on my next visit to Malta!
By the way, good taste in music 😎

Before you come
Before you come
Do you take walk-ins? +
Yes, until midnight, any day. If he’s mid-session, message on WhatsApp first and he’ll hold the chair for you.
Are you really open until midnight? +
Yes — until 24:00, seven days a week. Most studios in Sliema close between 18:00 and 22:00.
Do you speak English? +
Yes.
Can I pay by card? +
Yes. Cash, debit, credit, Visa, Mastercard, Revolut and crypto are all accepted in the studio.
How long does a session take? +
Most sessions run two to four hours. A full day is six to eight hours or more, and large pieces are paid per session rather than all at once.
Do you cover up an old tattoo? +
Yes. Send a photo of what’s there now on WhatsApp — Stoyan prices cover-ups himself once he’s seen it, because what’s underneath decides how much work it is.
What if it needs a touch-up? +
The first touch-up is free. Book it no earlier than two weeks after the tattoo, and within a month of it.
Does it hurt? +
Numbing cream is available in the studio, or bring your own. An aftercare kit is available too.
How does a custom piece start? +
Message him with the idea, a rough size in cm and where you want it. The consultation is free. The deposit is 20% of the total, comes off the final price and is non-refundable. Design and drawing time is included once it’s paid, and if you don’t like the drawing he redraws it. You can move the date if you tell him by the day before — later than that, or a no-show, and the deposit is lost.
How old do I need to be? +
18 or over, with ID. No exceptions — it is the law in Malta and there is no parental-consent workaround.
